Project # 13 - Funky Apron
21. February 2008 by Kathy.
This was fun and has been on my to do list for a few months. So, on the web in various blogs I have seen these funky style aprons. They seem to be mostly designed by alternate style artists. The great thing about them is that they are NOT matchy matchy. In the quilting process for traditional quilts you tend to pick 5 to 7 fabrics that go together, that use different size prints/patterns to create interest and that follow a certain color line defined by one or two of the fabrics.
Here in the funky apron you freeform it - no real measuring. You pick a fabric and then somewhat pick to go with it. Alternate trims are also added.
So first - here are the fabrics and trims I picked:

The first one pictured became the base of the apron. The next is the velvelt pocket, the next (with the paisleys) became the other pocket. The ribbon became one side of the paisley pocket. And the final fabric became the waistband and ties on the apron.
One thing that these artists do is include and proudly display the selvedges. I tried that and we will see how I like it when I start using this apron. Oh - you might want to see the finished item huh?

And here is it from farther back (like the model?):

Definitely I would like to repeat this project…maybe one per creative interest? That would mean a lot of these!

Project #12 - Mosaic Journal
21. February 2008 by Kathy.
I am signed up for Teresa McFayden’s Sweet Bella - its a project oriented ezine that comes out on Mondays,Wednesdays and Fridays for the month of February. This is the third month she has done this. For once I got a project done shortly after Teresa released it!
Teresa said start with a Composition Journal so I did. Remember these?

And I found them in COLORS too!

Then you pick out some scrapbook type papers, tear the heck out of them (talk about a stress reliever), and glue them down. Finally you paint in between (I loved this method!). Easy project.

Recently on Martha Stewart Crafts I saw a project along these lines except they used one image/paper on top. What caught my eye was that they used a sports image - a gift for a man. Also they covered the back and then added nice papers on the inside of the covers. Ah one can keep gluing!

Project # 6 - Bowlin Calendar Kit
21. February 2008 by Kathy.
I thought I best get this project done since its a calendar for THIS YEAR. If you haven’t checked out Jenni Bowlin - here is a link to her site http://www.jennibowlin.com/. I love the Create section. This was January’s kit (which I have on auto shipment).

Simple process - glue cover on front, hole punch thru cover and calendar pages, use these great WHITE rings - I have only ever seen them in the standard silver. Decorate the front - I did not use the flower because I need to set it flat against the wall.

Jenni suggested a photo be added each month to document the year and that is the way I am going.
